SAT 5/4 DRIVE through Fort Worth and Dallas to Rowlett. 80 miles
May the FOURTH be with you! Lots of people dressed up in Star Wars costumes. Even the DOT got in the spirit...we saw highway sign said something like "wear your seatbelt you will".
On our way to Janet's, we stopped in Fort Worth for the Museum of History and Science (I'm glad I signed up for the membership at the Fleet Science center in SD, because our affiliate status got us in free). We got to park the MH next to the horse arena and saw horses exercising and even got to pet a horse in the stalls and meet the owner/rider who was competing this weekend.
We arrived to Janet's in the afternoon, so it was easy to park in the daylight in their driveway. The cousins were there waiting for us and immediately took to each other... Alex and Samantha are so close in age to Marissa and got along great. That worked right into our plan of date night--the kids had a sleepover in the big house (Marissa, Sam, and Alex got along so well, they shared a room and apparently took a while to settle down). Chris and Karen got to see Mary & David's new house in skeleton phase (walls and wiring), take a romantic stroll through Home Depot for caulk to fix the MH fender, and then enjoyed delicious food at a place in "the harbor".
SUN 5/5. Today is fun day!
We started with an open house tour at Katelyn's work, the PetSmart grooming department. Then we did some schoolwork catch-up before heading off to the park for a church picnic with Mary & kids. They played at the splash pad, explored the lake, and blew bubbles. We even found a new book for each girl at a "free little library" in the park (we later left a book behind to refill it).
We finished the evening with a large family gathering. Janet picked up yummy BBQ and prepared some sides and Mary made dessert. We enjoyed visiting with Nichole, Kat & Dani, and the general family time.
MON 5/6. Today is "chill" day. That means no agenda except laundry, work, and school.
Karen found a gym and got to swim, and picked a few things up at the store so we'd be ready for our long drive tomorrow. We spend a lot of time getting our week of school organized in the big house while daddy had peace and quiet in the MH to do work.
We went out to dinner with Kat and her friend Dani at a new-to-us place called Bar Louie with games (cornhole, oversized Jenga, and giant connect four) so the kidlets were entertained and we enjoyed good conversation.
Apparently we had such a great time with family, we didn't take many pictures this weekend.
"do not jisirv [distrub] texas" (Marissa's translation of don't mess with Texas), everything's bigger in Texas, it's the lone star state, and they say "y'all". Texas has lots of armadillos--too bad all the ones we saw were immobilized on the side of the highway.
