We had a great time at Lincoln's boyhood cabin National Park. Marissa seemed intrigued by Lincoln recently, so when I saw the tiny red letters on the big paper USA map for this place, I wanted to stop by. It was so worth the stop, even if we got to our campground really late that night.
We had to unhitch in the small parking lot with four yellow buses in order to park, but the school groups were all finishing up when we started, so it was pretty tame when we went through. There was a nice educational film and museum, then we went on a little 1 mile hike. Halfway around the loop was the grounds maintained in 1800's style, including 3 volunteers in period dress, using historically accurate tools. They taught us to spin wool, work in the carpenter wood shop, and the kids had a blast seeing the chickens and the 6 baby sheep. They earned their 3rd Jr. Ranger badge.
Our neighbors check in periodically and let us know that our chickens at home are well and good.
Somebody gave us rabbit ears, and Piper practiced taking a selfie before returning the phone/camera.
We stopped for Kentucky Fried Chicken at Kentucky state line per Addisyn's request before leaving the state.
