Family RV Trip

We just got back home after a week-long family RV trip to Sequoia National Park and the Ronald Regan Presidential Library. We caravaned with 4 RVs-- us, Mike & Katherine, Sue & Bernie, and Joyce & David.

I was SOOOO impressed with how well both girls did in the truck with all the driving time! Besides the day-long drive north, we were in the truck for hours every day driving in and around all the sites. We are happy to know that neither girl has any motion sickness and did just fine on all the windy mountain roads. Piper slept most of the time in the truck and Addisyn only put us in "survival mode" twice (dealing with the whining/screaming/throwing toys down--we haven't given in to the DVD player in the car yet, but we were almost at that point today).


Sequoia was beautiful and the weather was nice up in the mountains, but the campground in the foothills was about 100 degrees during the day, but was a manageable 80 or so in the evening when we got back for dinner. We hiked to the top of the biggest rock (see us at the top of Moro Rock, ~300' hike to 6700' elev.), drove through Tunnel Log, and saw the world's largest tree (General Sherman Tree, size by volume). Chris and I toured Crystal Cave with Mike & Katherine while the grandparents watched the girls and 5 of us went horseback riding. Addisyn wouldn't get near the horses, but Piper enjoyed petting them. We cooled off in the campground's swimming hole one day too.



I had never been to a Presidential Library/Museum before, but the Reagan Library was neat. It had displays representing parts of his life and of his terms in office. It was really cool to walk through Air Force One--the entire plane was on display in one of the buildings! My favorite part was the replica Oval Office. The Docents were very friendly and informative, and despite the frequent display of Jelly Belly's (apparently Regan loved them--his favorite flavor was black licorice), I resisted buying a jar at the gift shop. We got good use of our stroller, with Piper in it before lunch, and Addisyn napping in the afternoon.

We had picnic lunches every day and ate BBQ dinners as a group every night. The family time was awesome and I'm glad we had the opportunity to travel together. We were able to wind down each night in good company.
