Halloween 2017

We enjoyed the kids' costumes and a variety of fun events this Halloween.

ADDISYN requested to be an Indian this year (after studying native cultures in school), and lo and behold, I found a brown fringed dress (Pocahontas?) at the resale shop AND it was her size--score!  PIPER was content with the pumpkin costume from our stash of Halloween stuff we pulled down from the attic.  MARISSA had fun switching up her costume from our stash--first being a witch, and then Minnie Mouse for different occasions.

Our first event was for Girl Scouts, hosted by Kappa Delta at USD--girls rotated through stations hosted by (college girls dressed up as) characters and talked about character traits exemplified by that character, so they learned about perseverance, courage, compassion, being considerate, and being helpful from Dory, Pochahontas, Ariel, Aurora, etc.

Then Piper's Girl Scout troop planned an afternoon at Oma's Farm and invited siblings, so I brought all 3 girls and we had some good old-fashioned non-technology fun play time.   They got a hay ride through the cows, slid down a mountain of cotton seeds, ran through the hay maze, climbed on old tractors, played basketball shoot and bean bag toss, and got a fun patch and a pumpkin to take home.

For Marissa's preschool parade, she wore the witch costume, and Grandma Ann even made it to watch all the children walk around the campus.  Marissa said she was a witch that can "turn people into spinach so I can eat them... and then they turn into dancing people."  For gymnastics class, she wore her leotard under the costume so she was a "good witch, turned into a ballerina."

The Fuerte Trick or Treat Carnival was Saturday night 10/29, and the kids basically ate candy for dinner.  (I must be getting more lax in my parenting over the years!)  We won a cake in the cake-walk for the first time ever, and the kids picked the one with the spooky half-buried Barbie doll.  We got the kids home on time for bedtime, so Chris kept Marissa and Piper (unwillingly), and I let Addisyn return to the school to help the clean-up crew.

We could hear our neighbor's backyard haunt happening from our home, [and I'm trying to remember if we convinced Marissa to go through or not... probably not...she was pretty nervous about it!] so I must have gone through it with Addisyn and Piper.  They crawled for candy in the dark tunnel at the end, and we bought a homemade treat for the kids since all proceeds were going to their daughter's GS troop.

Finally Monday was actual Halloween and we did our usual neighborhood walk on our street, which is awesome because it is one of the few times these kids get together.  Then we had to go see what our friends were doing and finished trick-or-treating over there in our old neighborhood and hung out for real food at James & Deanna's (Brookelyn & Brett's) house (not candy for dinner this time!).
