GS Fall Encampment (Sept 30-Oct 2)

Addisyn's Girl Scout troop made a major accomplishment this fall--tent camping!   8 girls slept in 2 tents at the Youth Camp at Fiesta Island this weekend.  They had done cabin camping, but pitching their own tents, being responsible for preparing their own meals, and washing their own dishes in the great outdoors was a whole new level for them.  We had 2 girls join in the daytime fun as well, so we had a total of 10 girls.

Girls practiced with the tents at a troop meeting beforehand, so they were able to pitch and disassemble their own (large) tents with minimal adult assistance.  With 4 girls per tent, they had fun making SWAPS and playing MadLibs together before lights-out.  They practiced skills like teamwork, and cooperation, and being responsible and tidy.

There were two leaders, Natalie and I, who shared a small tent, and made sure girls stuck to their buddy/truddy system, holding them accountable for knowing where their partners were at all times.

During the day, we played at the beach and had an afternoon outing to Mission Bay Aquatic Center where they had a blast using kayacks, paddle boards, and sailing the bay.

Saturday evening we had a bonfire and roasted S'mores with other troops.

I am proud of these girls.  These 9-year-olds know how to step it up and made me proud to be a part of their lives and their adventure.
