STATS:

Weight 54 lb (52%) ---gained 3.5 lbs
BMI 15.98 kg/m2 (56.8%)
This is her first time filling out her clothes in size that match her age in years. From birth to now, Addisyn always had reached an age before beginning to wear the clothes with that number on the tag; this time she fits them well. And just a month or two later, she is already wearing size 10 in some items. What a growth spurt!
Her clothing style is comfortable cotton, no buttons, and with patterns and pictures over solids. She likes dressing up occasionally, yet wears the same jacket daily. She wanted a bra for her birthday and got one (sports bra style) from grammy that she wears now too.
My beautiful firstborn has angel kiss freckles over the bridge of her nose and on her cheeks.
Addisyn had a happy 8th birthday!
Addisyn wanted to have another beach party this year for her birthday. I used the pictures from last year to make invitations and we took our new MH for its maiden camping trip to Silver Strand. It was nice to park reverse next to my sister's trailer so we had a nice space between us for hanging out. Supervising all the kids in the waves kept me busy, but the kids had a great time!
What is Addisyn like at 8 yrs old?
A mixed-blessing, Addisyn has high body-awareness (sensitive) of how her body feels. It is hard for me to determine if she is seriously in pain or just an annoyance type of pain. (knees, feet, tummy...) The good is that she can alert us to an early stage ear infection before it gets bad. I am trying to teach her that it is normal to feel "off" or imperfect sometimes, and if it is minor then she has to learn to make-do, but to tell us if something is serious or persistent.
She is friendly, fun-loving, and kind. I am so glad that she hasn't grown out of her imagination yet. She and her sisters play so well together with their imaginative play. However, when I ask her to stop playing to do a chore or do HW, she "conveniently" gets hungry right at that moment. She recently enjoys playing "preschool" with Marissa, teaching her letters and numbers.
She is a conscientious and honest person and she wants to do the right thing. She is slow at transitions, taking much time to be organized. It takes her time to get things done because she is careful and a low-risk taker--she doesn't want to do it unless she knows she'll be right. She can be timid, but is working on her confidence and speaking up for herself. These traits also makes schoolwork challenging; she doesn't like the WORK part of school. She acts like she doesn't know things so that mommy will help her/tell her what to do (this has not been a fun battle for me since I caught on and argue for her to figure things out herself).
Conversely, Addisyn likes to help and problem-solve. She often has a solution for everything... "You should just...." "Just..." (um...I already thought of that, and as if it were that simple!) TV commercials are influential now too--she frequently refers to their products as a solution to a dilemma (she "needed" teeth whitening toothpaste and I was to use Care.com to find a babysitter).
Addisyn and her third grade level peers are all looking more mature in their faces, and gaining some pre-teen attitude, but all while keeping their playfulness.
Along with many her peers, Addisyn also has shifted to a later bedtime. She is now allowed to stay up to 8:30, or 9pm if reading (and if after a successful morning that day). Sending her to bed too soon resulted in trouble falling asleep, even up to 10pm many nights. I think some of her grouchy mornings and trouble concentrating is related to some sleep deprivation.
