Our dear Marissa is getting more and more fun to play with. It is nice to be able to interact with her more as she understands more and more verbal communication. She is now 16 months old. What is she up to?
- Jumping! She bends her knees, then goes up to her toes
- Turning in circles (to feel dizzy?)
- Running away from mommy -- she doesn't even look back!
- Looking in my purse for things to pull out
- Tries getting into drawers and cabinets
- She is very cooperative in her carseat.
- Milestone: no more bottles! She had been getting a bedtime bottle for a while, but she doesn't need it anymore.
- Likes to brush her teeth since we started "choo-choo-ing"
What can she do?
- Building with mega blocks, using good hand-eye coordination and motor skills
- Open doors with handles (not knobs yet)--at 15 months (March 3rd)
- Buckles her own chest clip in the carseat (she can do it herself, but I usually help line it up for her)
- Feed herself using a fork or spoon (messily!)
- Take the cap off a marker pen (luckily no disasters on that front yet)
- Hands me her dishes when done eating, and helps pick up the food mess by putting pieces on the plate to clean up.
- Crosses her arms over her chest and points for saying "love you"
What does she like?- Loves shoes, and always is trying to put them on. She will lift her foot for me to put them on her.
- Tries to put hats on (but they end up behind her head)
- Wearing or playing with bike helmets
- Riding in the motorized toy jeep
- Oatmeal, peas, pizza
- Bathtime! She likes the water sprayer, playing with a cup of water, and "back floats" (in shallow water)
- Scribbling with crayons/pen/pencil
- "a-na" for all done or thank you [talking, verbal skills]
- "nana" for banana
- something that sounds like 1, 2, "3" (on March 12), ... but now just sounds like an excited screech
- "hi" "bye" used at appropriate times
- Repeats all kinds of things we say
- repeated "woof, woof" for a doggie (mid March, 15 months)
- Said "doggie" at 16 months all on her own when picking up a stuffed dog toy

Understands words: love, Marissa, mommy, daddy, in, up, all done, let's go, kiss, circles
Knows a few body parts: belly, eyes, nose, ears, feet/toes
How is she growing?
Not as much weight as I expected her to put on, but she is rounding out the growth curve, moving up from 12th to 20% percentile. She continues to be right around 50%ile for height.
Dr Stats: (on 3/24 ; 15 1/2 months)
Height: 2' 6.75" (48%ile)
Weight: 19 lb 6oz (20%ile)
Head: 17.75" (28%ile)

Teeth: she has 4 molars now, one in each quadrant (TOTAL of 12 teeth all together now)
Clothes: growing out of size 3 shoes soon, and wearing size 12month clothes
She still fits in her infant carrier carseat and was in it for 15 months, but is now is rear-facing in a new TrueFit carseat. (Made the official switch after she overflowed a diaper in the infant seat--I guess I was needing a good excuse to finally make the switch!)
Is she a good sleeper?
She sleeps 12 hrs through the night (with some noises--glad we don't share a room).
She is now at one nap/day now. Naps have been 1.5 hr. It took a couple weeks to transition from 1 to 2 naps/day, but she is still somewhat cranky in the afternoons; we've been trying to put her to bed between 7 and 7:30pm (rather than the usual 8pm bedtime).
Can you show me five million pictures of her? Of course!
Piper and Marissa play piano together. Her big sisters like picking her up and can put her on the piano bench.

Oatmeal is a good food for using a spoon.
Marissa helped herself to the breakfast her sisters abandoned outside. I was impressed how she drank from the wide mouth red cup two times in a row (it went down her shirt the third time).
I'm enjoying my time with her, and taking her on as many adventures as we can. She liked running around the room as much as looking at fish on this day at Sea World.
I don't know if the cabinet was left open or if the latch was loose that day, but she enjoyed an adventure in there.... and still frequents this cabinet to stick her arm in there and reach for whatever she can in the 3" child-lock gap.
A nice day for water play outside with her sisters, and naked time!

Marissa's first time on the tea cups ride at Sea World. She didn't use to like spinning in circles, but she seems okay with it now.
Frilly dresses are meant for playing in the back yard, right? Here she is playing in the fire truck her mom and aunties used to play with.
This is Marissa's favorite thing to sleep with. This doggie is so soft and cuddly. I actually hid it for a while because I'm afraid she will be too attached to it (it's not as small and washable as the other loveys).
Playtime after school! Standing in front of Addisyn's classroom, Marissa saw the playground, turned to hand me her toy, and then took off all the way by herself across the blacktop to the playset. The girls like to play here after school sometimes. I took this picture right before Marissa fell off the swing backwards (don't worry, no injuries). This picture is the desktop background picture on our computer now.
