Addisyn is loving school, her teacher, and her friends. She also likes to play school at home and boss her little sister around.
Fuerte Elementary and the Cajon Valley school district are on a trimester grading schedule, so we received Addisyn's first trimester report card. They use an effort scale in all areas, and for Language Arts and Mathematics, employ an academic performance rating of 1-4. Addisyn got lots of 3's and 4's, for "proficient" and "advanced." I suppose preschool really helped her get off on the right foot.
Here's an overview of what she has learned so far:
LANGUAGE ARTS:
-Sight words she knows: I, my, you, we, he, she, a, and, see, like, to, go, is, in, it, at, here
-Letter sounds--spelling using sounds (for example, she wrote a story with the word "friend" which she does not know, but she sounded it out and wrote "frund", then realized the letter u was not right and changed it to "frend"--not perfect, but very impressive in two ways--one to get 4 letters correct, and two, the process of working that out on her own.)
-Loves making her own books now....drawing and/or writing, and stapling all the pages together--she goes through more staples at home than my students do!
-Goal: smaller and neater handwriting, and keeping letters of one word together on a line
MATH:
-Counted objects 1:1 up to 39 when tested w/teacher
-Counting and adding (various ways to make a #) counting days, students, family members...
-Intro to place values
-Good at explaining her thinking, as in how she arrives at an answer, or why she sorted objects a certain way
-Beginning the "fewer" concept next
SOCIAL STUDIES:
-rules, thanksgiving, healthy bodies (medicine is drugs, food groups candy is sugar--too much is bad for your body)
STUDY AND SOCIAL SKILLS:
-Overall, earned "E" for excellent effort
-Works independently as well as cooperatively with others
-Stays on task
-Show respect for rules and uses self-control
-Recently "opened up" according to Mrs. Fine--as in shares a lot more, this was particularly noticed after being star of the day
