Carlsbad Beach Camping

7 months ago we booked camping reservations for Carlsbad State Beach and were happy to go, especially since we had a heatwave of over 100° temps in East County (and we have no AC). We took our 5th wheel trailer (with AC) and had ocean-front camp sites adjacent to some friends. It was a great excuse to sleep in, relax, and enjoy friends and family.

It was nice to let Addisyn play outside and enjoy the outdoors without boiling ourselves in El Cajon. It was still hot, but much more comfortable at the coast. We took to the beach each day for a few hours and Addisyn loved it. (After what seemed like hours of prep--napping, eating, putting on sunscreen, packing the beach bag, figuring out who is carrying what up/down the 103 stairs to the beach--we finally made it down. {Hopefully us new parents get more skilled at this whole routine.}) She was tentative to the ocean at first, but it didn't take long to enjoy it. She played in the dirt for a while until I got too hot and tired of swatting her sandy hands/toys/rocks/shells away from her mouth or cleaning her mouth after I missed. Then we let the waves splash us to wash all the dirt off. She had a blast and giggled after "jumping" a wave and then playing in the water and foam after the wave. Apparently it is hard to keep one eye on baby and one on waves, because daddy and I each missed one, and doused Addisyn completely! She was shocked, but handled it like a champ--she's our little fish in the water.
