Piper finishes Preschool

Piper's last day of preschool was Wednesday, June 18th.  They had a pizza party celebration on the last day.

Here is Piper with her work samples from this year. There is art from various units based on holidays, sea life, animals, teeth, nature, dinosaurs, weather, food, etc.  In the middle is her name from when she wrote her letters 12 inches tall, a self portrait with hair that comes out of the face like rays of sun, and a display of various art mediums, such as stamping, stencils, collage, yarn sewing, glue, water paint, and even popcorn kernels.   One of my favorites is the green "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom" tree with the foam letters stuck on it (upper left quadrant of photo).

Ms. Colombina made a binder of pictures and artwork from the year for each child to help them remember the year.  We have her artwork from the first day this year, handprint and footprint art from all year, and pictures of her playing or posing with friends.  She likes to look at it and tell me about what she see's on each page...basically when she tells it, she loved everything all year long.  Some of our favorites that we can recall were the teddy bear picnic and when the Cat in the Hat (Nyla's mom Ursula) came to visit and drew whiskers on the kids' cheeks.

I appreciate how the kids learned to follow directions, play nicely with each other, take turns, stand in line, and share.  Piper always did really well with those things at school, even though she would get tired in the afternoon and have a harder time doing those things at home with her sister.

Piper had lots of friends this year, from her own class and from the other classes too.  She was friends with Maddie, Sophie, Layla, Nyla, Emilio, Max, Oliver, and Kaid--these are the ones I know their names well enough to write them down, I'm sure there are more!  Sophie and Piper also took gymnastics together at the YMCA.  We also did some carpooling with Mallory for afternoon pick up.  Piper did "extended day" 2pm pickup all year.

Piper is excited to learn to read, actually telling me that she wants to learn words and she likes writing too.  She can write her name big or small, and she knows our address and my cell phone #.  She can't wait for kindergarten to start.

First day in August:

On the last day with Ms. Colombina. (She dressed herself in this play leotard which was the favored outfit recently.)

Piper got to attend a pool party with her preschool friends for the end of school.  They had Hawaiian shaved ice as a fun treat.
