Repipe

Mid-February we discovered a leak, well two leaks apparently.  

First, we got an alert from Otay Water that our water had been running for over 24 hours.  Nothing was dripping that we could identify, but we were suspicious of our warm floors so to narrow it down, Chris turned off the water supply to the house and watched the meter--still moving.  Rotor Rooter replaced our frozen pressure regulator and the adjacent leak.  That helped but we still had a slow leak we could not identify.  Turning off the hot water helped but we hired a leak detection company who believed we have a leak in the pipes in the slab.  

For a couple weeks while we figured out what to do, we kept the hot water off during the day and night, only turning it on for short time periods in the morning and night for showers/baths, then back off.

Since it was possible there was more than one leak, we decided new pipes in the attic was preferable to digging holes for repair in our floors.  The plumbers worked for a week, cutting drywall and running new pipes through the attic and down walls, and then shut off our water completely to connect them all--we were w/o water completely for a day or two.  About two months later, we finally had everything patched back up.  

...because tearing giant holes in our house was EXACTLY what we wanted to do while getting ready to go out of town!  

Thankfully we caught it in time to fix before we left and it won't leak and destroy our house while we are gone.
