Marissa Pedaling her "Balance Bike"

After a summer of gaining confidence on the balance bike our neighbor gave us, we took the training wheels off her pedal bike and encouraged her while we had a good venue for practice.  It was an easy transition to say the pedal bike was the same idea--balancing, but with feet on pedals.  So we called it a "balance bike with pedals."

I am feeling so proud of this little girl who learned to ride at the same place as (but younger than) her sisters, who also took their training wheels off at South Carlsbad beach campground.  She is 3 1/2.

She is able to get herself started by putting the top pedal in the right spot in its rotation too.  To stop, she knows to backpedal for brakes, but doesn't always do it and will drag her feet.

She only fell a couple of times. ;-)

She is loving it and is so proud of herself!

Ms. Summer hitched a ride back to her camp site since Marissa had no interest in the bike trailer anymore.  I'm not going to miss packing it, but I will miss the convenience of using it!
