Solar: No more $800 electric bills!

How many kWhrs will we generate this year?  With 39 new 275watt solar panels, we should generate about 10,725 KW.  We still use more than that, but we anticipate staying in Tier 1 rates, rather than up in Tier $$$$.

We started researching this project in February, thinking we could easily get it done in time before the summer heat set in.  Unfortunately we still got one last $883 bill before we got our solar connected to the grid mid-August.

We contracted with Countywide Electric and they were very good, and helped us work with SDGE for our service panel upgrade and with Otay Water since we had to dig across a water pipe easement that goes across our property.  Unfortunately SDGE and Otay didn't care how quickly we got the job done, so we had a bit of a waiting game.  Countywide dug --by hand, for days on end, in 90-100 degree heat-- this 5' deep trench down to the edge of our property to the electric box so we could put in heavy gauge wires.  The kids helped...for about 5 minutes.  (Life lesson: study hard in school so you won't have to dig ditches for a living--that's rough work!)
