Addisyn and Piper are both participating in our church children's choir again this year. The director, Carol Paton, schedules them to sing during church every month or two. I can tell their voices are stronger this year and they are completely used to performing for a large crowd. They meet weekly on Wednesday afternoons for 1 hour practice, and the following hour of fellowship and games to help them learn about music. (The girls get disappointed that they have to leave 1/2 hour early and miss some games, but are beginning to understand the time conflict with overlapping swim practice time.)
Addisyn is also in the church children's bell choir. She really enjoys this. Kids have to be in at least 2nd grade to do bells, so this is the first year Addisyn could try it. They use regular sheet music and have two notes circled with different colors to coordinate with their two handbells (there are at least 4 notes/bells chiming with each beat) . They have to follow the rhythm and know types of notes in order to follow the conductor's lead. They learn a new song every month or two and then perform it at a church service. They practice every Sunday between services. Sue has been helping us by getting Addisyn there on time many weeks. There are a lot of choir kids who ring bells also. The children's bell director is Linda Cree, who is special to us because I taught her talented daughter Annie when I was at Steele Canyon.
These activities certainly keep us attending church more regularly.
