Rand Family Summer RV Vacation 2011

We enjoyed 7 days camping with the families.  Both sets of parents extended their vacations by going out early and then we (us, and Mike & Katherine and Jacob) met them at our first campground at June Lake.  It was nice that Susan prepared dinner for us since we with kids travelled all day and didn't get there til 6pm.
On the way home we joked about 4 RVs pulling over when one little girl had to pee (that would be Addisyn 25min into the drive home) (we were smart enough to at least put Piper in a diaper).  The drive home was shorter since our second campground in Lone Pine was 200 miles closer to home (smart planning, if you ask me!).
Demonstrating our packing style with a toy-box trailer--plenty of room for the toys!

The girls loved the top bunk in the trailer
Our first day, we visited Mammoth Mtn.  We rode gondolas to the peak and played in the snow at 11,053 elevation.

On our second day, we played in June Lake.  The water was chilly, but everyone enjoyed their turn in the kayaks and we had a relaxing day at the beach with snow topped mountains as a backdrop.

From camp in Lone Pine, we escaped a day of heat and wind by visiting the gorgeous Mt. Whitney portal.
We had lunch by a beautiful waterfall and ventured on a little hike.  We really enjoyed the nature here.

At the campground in Lone Pine, we got the girls to practice riding bikes one day, but we we pretty much tried to stay out of the wind and heat, usually at the pool.

SWIMMING!
We spent 3 days in a row in the pool so the girls had time to practice their water skills.  Piper worked on floats and blowing bubbles.   Addisyn loved picking up a toy off the bottom, "swimming" to daddy, and she even did her first REAL floating ALL BY HERSELF!

Fish.
WooHoo!  Addisyn tummy floating by herself for the first time--no hands!

So proud of herself and having FUN!
I love the expression on Addisyn's face in this last picture. Such pleasure in her success.
We sure are having fun with the waterproof camera!

Karen -- amazing job blogging, as usual. Totally enjoyed the whole account, but the underwater shot at the end is incredible! Have held my breath the whole time while looking at Addisyn. -- auntie judy
