Desert New Year's

Happy 2011! We took off for the desert right after Christmas and spent 5 nights camping. We only planned on 3, but wanted more time with our friends so we ran into Yuma for some extra food supply and stayed longer.

Addisyn and Piper used their new shovel and brooms to dig holes with their cousins and clean up the sand.

In sharp contrast to a couple months ago, both girls enjoyed riding in the buggy this time. Addisyn is just barely big enough to be strapped in on her own and we put in a carseat for Piper (with tie downs). It was so fun to listen to Addisyn GIGGLING on the hills up or down and anytime we went fast. Piper enjoyed it as well with a few smiles here and there, but her eyes were mostly like a sponge, taking it all in. After a "big" ride in the dunes to play in the soft dunes sand, we were proud parents of two sleeping beauties in the back seats.

On New Year's Eve, our friends set up a huge craft table for making brown paper bag new year's hats. Piper ripped hers before ever getting started, but hung out while Addisyn found everything purple and glittery to put on her "purple princess hat".

After a calendar lesson and an early bedtime for the little people, Chris and I stayed up for the midnight celebration by the campfire, popped some champagne, and of course kissed to start the new year off right!
