End of Schoolyear-- Addisyn recital, Piper promotion

Finishing school at home...   Addisyn took a science class with Amy Farafowler, Marissa participated in spirit days like Crazy hair day even on zoom, and Piper found the best seat in the house for comfort and fresh air.

Virtual dance recital -- We had family over to our patio where Addisyn set up her stage.  She did a "dress rehearsal" to her recorded video of her routine, and then all the girls joined Annabelle for her "dress rehearsal" recording of "Rubber Ducky".  We wanted to support Annabelle in motivating her to perform since doing zoom classes was especially hard for her age.  Megan even joined them in her costume even though she didn't survive her own zoom classes.  After a dinner break we watched Addisyn perform again for the real thing.  We enjoyed front row seats for photos.  Now we just wait to see how the video comes together with all the student's parts.  

Fuerte Promotion -- Karen was on the 5th grade Committee and helped plan promotion, which was a lot more work this year since we had to recreate the whole event.  I figured I'd also use some extra masks to make appreciation gifts for all the volunteers we would need.

Promotion was on Wednesday.  Chris washed the Jeep last weekend and Piper decorated it this last night and this morning with Hawaiian decor and balloons.  We even made a falcon flag with vinyl and and old sheet.  Karen had to be up early for set up since I was the head of promotion logistics on the 5th grade committee.  We have been planning for 2 months and I'm glad it was enjoyed and celebrated well.  The ceremonial speeches were recorded into a video with the annual slide show and we were emailed a link to enjoy watching on our own time with our families.  The recognitions were drive-through style in traffic circle and followed by a 2-part parade-- first 5th graders drove through the neighborhood so friends and family could cheer them on, then we came back through and parked leapfrog style so 5th graders could see each other one last time in person.  It was quite a party success!

Last day of school!  Thursday, June 18

Marissa's class was longer than usual with a party in a bucket that we picked up from Mrs. Buehl at school last Friday.  The kids took pictures outside school since they can't be on campus.  We never got our usual pictures of the kids with their teachers since there was no open house/parent night this year. 

We went out to dinner to celebrate promotion and the last day of school on Thursday, the official last day of school.  It was the first time we have eaten in a restaurant with all 5 of us since March.  The restaurant was alternating tables so it was a lot less crowded than normal.

ADDISYN 

 

The best part of 7th grade was getting to go to Catalina in the Fall.  Transitioning to pandemic-schooling was awkward, but she made the best of it and kept up the effort.  I think it's funny that they studied world diseases this year.

PIPER

Fifth grade was still fun even if they didn't get to do all the end of year activities that were planned.  They got to do Mission Bay Aquatic center in the fall, and go through the job application process before BizTown.  Piper has a good solid understanding of concepts in all her subject areas and will reach deeper into the details if she is motivated.  Mrs. Miller was an inspiring teacher this year.

MARISSA

Mrs. Buehl keep 1st grade fun and inspiring for learning.  Marissa enjoys being at school and despite generally trying to write less words on a given assignment, when she wrote about school at home she certainly had many words to write!  I want to be free too!
