Marissa's GOLDEN Birthday

Apparently everyone has a "golden" birthday between 1-31 years old, on the year that matches the day of the month they are born on.  Marissa turned 4 on the 4th so we found it a good excuse to have fun with the color gold.  She got a gold tutu, headband, party hat; and gold party decorations. She was very excited about the whole thing.

We had a family party for lunch and made it a play dough theme... we made our own dough, and the majority of her gifts were Play Doh related.  She had a great time squeezing, squishing, and shaping all the colors of playdough.

What is Marissa like at this age?
Her favorite color is purple.  She likes doing her own hair and putting 20 clips or headbands in at once.  She can buckle in her carseat all by herself.  She is still loving gymnastics classes.  She doesn't cry at preschool drop off anymore!  Marissa is a good problem solver (once tried stacking pillows to reach the key kept at the top of the door frame after locking herself out of the bathroom).  She is confident.  She enjoys the attention of others (when a woman at the store said she liked the 20 flowers in her hair, Marissa said "I KNEW people would love it").  She likes being my helper!
When parenting requires me to "redirect" her, it is harder but still possible.

Marissa learned how to swim (okay, float and move in the water) and ride a bike (no training wheels) when 3 yrs old.

Potty training progress... we keep going through phases, but our latest success was determining that "you can pee in 3yr old panties, but not 4yr old panties," so SHE removed all the size 3's from her dresser and is only wearing size 4 now and is actually doing pretty good--no full out release of bladder, just a few times of a few drops and she stops.  Unfortunately, she thinks if she hides wet pants or lies to us about it ("secret") then it's like it didn't happen. We have tried positive reinforcement--an M&M every time she uses the toilet with temporary results.  She told her daddy that she doesn't want to stop playing to go to the bathroom, so I had to use negative reinforcement and took away a toy she was using when she choose to NOT use the toilet--only had to do that once so far.

STATS
     Height: 40.25" -growth of 2.5"  (46%ile)
Weight: 33.5 lbs -gain of  5.5 lbs (38%ile)
I like that she is still small/light enough to carry and cuddle.
