Living at New Frontier Mobile Home Park in Santee was ideal for years, but now she is moved to Good Samaritan Retirement Center off of Jamacha Rd, so she is very close by. Her new apartment is upstairs, has a kitchenette, ample closet space, sliding glass doors facing east for morning sunshine, and a small balcony overlooking the courtyard.
On the day of the move, Marissa and I took GG to the doctor and out to lunch at IHOP, while Joyce and others moved her things in so it would be less overwhelming for her. We are continuing our weekly visits as often as we can. Marissa really lights up Grandma's eyes and is a great companion. Marissa is a great distraction from her pains.
Grandma loves boasting to anyone we walk by, "These are my Grandkids."
We try to engage her in an activity when we visit, like playing Uno or a kids Memory game. One time Marissa got to paint with the older ladies in the activity room. GG has a hard time focusing on our games sometimes so we share what we are up to and learning at school, and show her pictures on my smartphone.
She still occasionally offers to watch Marissa for me while I run an errand, and I politely say thanks and let the topic of discussion change. Now mom sometimes borrows Marissa from me to go visit GG, as it makes the trip easier.
