In March, Dad forwarded me an email from the Moss Motoring editor with a request to use the girls in a picture with his car. We brainstormed ideas like kids holding wrenches, grease on hands/face, changing a tire, tow rope to the tricycle... We weren't sure how to make it happen between the weather and school/nap schedules, but mom & dad set up the car across the street one afternoon to squeeze in a quick photo session and the weather cooperated.
The original request for photos from the magazine editor said:
"I’m working on the summer issue of Moss Motoring and I want to find a cover photo that will make people smile every time they look at it.... The issue is shaping up to have a theme of “Friends and Family come to the rescue” and help keep LBCs on the road. This has more to do with mechanical fixes than getting a tow from your brother’s Ford F150..."
Issue #2 for 2015 came out in May, surprising us with the winning photo for the Magazine cover! This was probably prize enough, but dad also won a $200 certificate to Moss Motors. Dad has been buying parts from them since 1968 (about the time he got the TC), so this long-time customer will certainly use it!
Mom proudly emailed out the cover photo to our family and their TC friends saying, "they asked for submissions of cover photos for their summer edition saying he wanted to find a cover photo that will make people smile every time they look at it. I think they succeeded. At least it makes me smile, how about you?"
They got lots of messages from friends commenting on how they liked the photo. One MG club friend even went on to say it was "the best cover of Moss Motors Mag ever!"

Our afternoon was quite staged but it was all about family and learning about the parts of the car, so we stuck to the theme, and we even did some real fixing too....
Dad had spare parts and tools laying around so the girls tried to figure out where each one went or what they were for. Then they had to put the tire back on the car for real. The magazine quoted dad for the cover blurb: "Together, Piper and Addisyn put the knock-off back on (had trouble because Mom's hint of lefty, loosy and righty, tighty did not work on the OFF side). Piper actually turned the jack handle to lower the car all by herself. She really had to work at it."
Then, he let me drive the car down the street with the girls in it. (No carseats, but those with seatbelts wore them, and we were legal because of the year of the car.) I decided we were safe since we are on a calm private drive.
My favorite picture is the one of dad riding on the side back up the street. This, after I got the clutch stuck nearly a quarter mile down the road and had to send the 6 & 7 year olds back home to get help because we couldn't see them from where we were. oops! ;-) I had to sit there sideways on the street with Marissa, waiting, because I was trying to make a 3-point turn and couldn't get it in reverse.

This was really fun. Nice the girls were so cooperative. It makes me smile seeing you drive the MG. Long way from when you used to ride in the back (behind the seats).
