We had an enjoyable December 4th, celebrating her birthday and taking the family out to pick a Christmas tree. We saved the free birthday brownie from the restaurant because she was getting squirly, and let her blow out her candles at home. Addisyn and Piper each picked out a candle and Marissa blew both candles out all by herself. She also opened her own gifts that her sisters had wrapped for her.
This December Marissa discovered she loves chocolate and I can use the chocolate in her Advent calendar to bribe her (I mean *encourage* her--haha). At least it worked to get her to sit in her carseat to go home.
Marissa's vocabulary continues to grow exponentially, with new words daily and speaking 3-5 word sentences. She is already tattling on her sisters, running down the hall to tell mommy/daddy in a sad way things like "Piper touch my back" or "Addisyn take my puppy".
We nicknamed Marissa "Little Miss Help Herself" because she just takes care of herself so often, getting her own snacks or moving chairs to reach things. She even climbed in my minivan by herself, which is at chest level on her.
She can follow simple (single-step) directions, like to put something away or take her diaper outside to the diaper champ. We are also working on delayed gratification with "first this, then that" building patience -- if she wants something, I tell her "first we'll buckle in, then you can have the book" or "first nap, then grandma's". It seems to be working.
The day after her birthday was Friday, so we had the family over to celebrate with her. Stacy made a cake and we put pictures of her favorite characters on it from the show "Wallykazam". I found out that through Nick Jr, I could have Wally call her on my cell phone, but she doesn't understand the phone well and it was a bomb (voice but no visual). Matt was in San Diego that week, so he came over for dinner, and we FaceTimed with Marcy on his iphone, that was pretty cool! With the four cousins together, the house got very loud and I thought my head would explode with the noise--they were all running around and having SO much fun together. The kids had a grand time helping Marissa open her gifts if they didn't think she was doing it fast enough.
